RAMMED EARTH RETREAT

Rammed earth is a centuries-old construction method in which layers of a carefully proportioned mixture of soil, sand, gravel, and stabilizing agents are compacted within temporary formwork to create solid structural walls. The resulting walls provide exceptional thermal mass, durability, fire resistance, and acoustic performance while utilizing abundant local materials that can significantly reduce the embodied carbon of a building compared with many conventional construction systems. Increasingly adopted in contemporary architecture, rammed earth combines environmental performance with a distinctive natural aesthetic, producing buildings that are both sustainable and visually expressive.

The house is made up of two rammed earth volumes bridged by a glass box. One volume houses the bedrooms while the other the kitchen. There is an extensive green roof system. The inner reflecting pool allows for outdoor enjoyment while keeping the occupant calm and protected on all sides.
